Monday Musings: "You don't have to get it right; you just have to get it going."

I came across a Monday inspirational by author/life coach Mike Litman that stated, "You don't have to get it right; you just have to get it going." This quote can be understood in a number of ways. However, I immediately felt that it would be something said to a person (like me) that procrastinates or even seeks perfection.

How many times do you put off doing something because (a) you don't feel that you will do it right, (b) you don't feel like putting in the effort physically or mentally, or (c) you want to wait until you feel its the perfect time? Dozens, I bet. Some people aspire to go back to school. Others want to open a business or find a new career. Some want to write a book or teach a class. The point is, if we don't 'get it going,' then life can easily pass us by. Think of how many opportunities that you may have lost while giving yourself excuses.

Sometimes we need to encourage ourselves to take that risk. Without risk, there can be no real reward. Do not let fear keep you from achieving your goals.

This quote can be understood from both minor and major standpoints. For example, I would really like to commit to a solid four days/per week of exercising. I have a great membership with a gym. I have new workout gear. I have receptive workout partners. I know that to achieve my desired weight loss goal, I must put in the work. Yet, that has not put a spark in my drive to do exercise as I should. Factors holding me back are laziness, a lack of excitement to exercise, and the fear that I won't achieve the results that I want. However, Mike Litman's philospohy is simple - stop stalling and put your plan into action! Be fearless. Stop waiting for those perfect ideas to take shape. The ideas that you already have could be very close to perfection. No one will know if you are holding them back due to a fear that they won't be received well. Go out and win those small victories.

We all have great ideas, dreams, and plans that we hope will come into realization one day. Each day we are afforded the chance to take small (or big) steps in a direction more beneficial to our wellbeing.

The point is DON'T WAIT. DO SOMETHING NOW!
